Jim Hong Architect (JHA) has been established in Kuala Lumpur since the year 2000 as a Sole Proprietorship Practice. JHA is a medium size practice consisting of 6 to 7 personnel of whom 3 are qualified architects (including myself as the principal) and 3 to 4 draught persons and others. JHA has undertaken various projects, ranging from residential bungalows to high-rise residential and commercial buildings as well as medium to high-end high-rise buildings.

Not only has JHA undertaken projects involving architecture and interior design work, but also project management and design and built projects (especially corporate office interior design). We collaborate closely with all office personnel to achieve our task in completing the project, and we out source our work as and when necessary. However, in most projects the principal architect is totally involved throughout the whole process of the work from inception to completion, including following up with relevant council department’s approval, coordination of consultant’s work, attending and organizing all relevant meetings and to obtain the Certificate of Fitness of Occupation (CF).

JHA design mainly deals with post modern design to other types of architecture. However, JHA has the agility and adaptability to cope with current trends and rapid changes in the future of the design world and of the economic cycle. In other words, JHA is capable of handling any challenges faced along the road. In addition, JHA is able to provide quality professional services from our output in architecture ideas as well as our design and quality of completed buildings.

In our rapidly changing built environment, JHA is not only able to design and to adapt to these changes, but most importantly, JHA takes into consideration to understand local culture, political influence and design direction, ensuring that our client and users become part of the design process.

Current projects undertaken by JHA have also taken into consideration of eco-friendly design and hopefully these projects on board may also achieve the Green Building Index. Not only will these buildings gain tax incentives provided by the government, but most importantly we aim to design buildings that have lesser negative impact to the natural environment.

Brief History

I attended St. Paul Boys School from 1970 to 1981 in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, West Malaysia. In 1982, I arrived in Sydney and continued my final year of high school (preparing for Higher School Certificate) at Radwick Boys School in Sydney, Australia.

In 1983, I began studies for my Bachelor of Architecture at University of New South Wales. After having finished my second year in architecture study, while continuing my study, I began working in an architecture/interior design practice. Upon completing my degree in Australia, I started working in the following firms:
  - PJ Martino Design Consultants
  - Perumal, Neil, Barbara & Partners
  - Desaro Design Interiors & Management Pty Ltd

I have then completed my degree and graduated in April 1991

I returned to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in year 1992 and started working in Malaysia for Wong TC Architect & Associate since 1992, during which I have worked as an architect and managed projects from small scale to larger scale projects (i.e. UOA Group of companies various multi-storey projects). I left the former and started my own practice in the year 2020. From the year 2000, Jim Hong Architect (JHA) was formed and has been practicing till this day. Since then, JHA has been involved in various projects, from small scale bungalows to large scale multi-storey buildings.
